Air force beats cougars

FORT WORTH — UH quarterback Case Keenum may want to simply forget any notions of entering next year's NFL draft.

His performance against Air Force in Thursday's Armed Forces Bowl might have sent his draft stock plummeting.

Keenum tossed a career-high six interceptions, and the Cougars' defense was unable to stop Air Force's powerful rushing attack en route to a crushing 47-20 loss before a crowd of 41,414 at TCU's Amon G. Carter Stadium.

The Cougars (10-4) missed out on their chance at the program's first 11-win season since 1979 and an opportunity to finish the season in The Associated Press Top 25.

Air Force finished the season 8-5 and avenged a 34-28 loss to UH in last year's Armed Forces Bowl.

The Falcons simply ran over the Cougars, rushing for 400 yards en route to setting an Armed Forces Bowl record for points scored. Running backs Jared Tew and Asher Clark, who was named MVP for Air Force, each rush 100-plus yards and two touchdowns.

The Cougars produced one of their lowest offensive outputs of the season. Keenum completed 24 of 41 passes for 222 yards and one touchdown. The Cougars were held to 109 rushing yards.

UH trailed 24-6 at halftime, but received a spark when wide receiver Tyron Carrier, who was named the MVP for UH, returned the second half's opening kickoff 79 yards for a touchdown to reduce the deficit to 24-13.

However, Air Force responded in similar fashion when Jonathan Warzeka returned the ensuing kickoff 100 yards to up the Falcons' lead to 31-13.

The route was on from there, as the Cougars never recovered.

Air Force struck early and often in the first half.

The Falcons opened the game with a six-play, 69-yard drive that ended with Clark's 36-yard touchdown run on a option play to the right side.

The Cougars' first drive stalled when Keenum's first pass was deflected off the leg of wide receiver James Cleveland and intercepted by Anthony Wright.

The Falcons quickly capitalized on the miscue. Quarterback Tim Jefferson (10-of-14 passing, 162 yards, one rushing TD) orchestrated a six-play, 63-yard drive that ended with Tew's 6-yard touchdown run to make it 14-0 with 8:52 left in the first quarter.

The Cougars got their first score when Matt Hogan connected on a 33-yard field goal with 14:51 remaining in the second quarter.

But Air Force wasn't done.

Jefferson led the Falcons on an 11-play, 80-yard drive that was capped by Clark's 22-yard touchdown run. Clark's score upped the Falcons lead to 21-3 with 8:55 left in the second quarter.

Keenum, who was intercepted three times in the first half, found a rhythm on the ensuing drive. He completed five of six passes for 60 yards, getting the Cougars as far as the Air Force 16 before the drive stalled. UH settled for a 33-yard field goal from Hogan with 1:21 left in the first half.

Air Force made things interesting on the next drive by getting as far as the UH 2 with 17 seconds remaining. Jefferson was dropped for an 8-yard'loss on the ensuing play, but the Falcons' field goal unit manage to line up with just enough time to allow Erik Soderberg to hit a 27-yard field goal as time expired in the first half.

Bill chooses Nix as the new GM

ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. -- Buffalo Bills national scout Buddy Nix has been promoted to general manager in team owner Ralph Wilson's first move to revamp his front office.

Nix was introduced at a news conference Thursday as the Bills (5-10) prepare to close their season hosting Indianapolis (14-1) on Sunday. Nix fills a void after Marv Levy stepped down as general manager following the 2007 season.

Chief operating officer Russ Brandon, who had been filling the GM's role, was promoted to chief executive officer, reporting to Wilson.

In introducing Nix, Wilson said it was important to him to hire someone with an extensive football background. That's a switch from Brandon, whose background is in marketing.

"I'm here to introduce somebody that we've needed for a long time, something the fans and everybody in the area and myself have wanted, and that's a general manager of football," Wilson said, adding that his decision came down to two in-house candidates. "We really needed somebody who knew all aspects of football."

Wilson didn't say who the other person was he considered.

However, a league soruce told ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter that the Bills considered two in-house personnel men -- pro personnel director John Guy and chief scout Tom Modrak -- among the candidates for the GM position. Nix, who turned 70 on Dec. 6, impressed Wilson during a recent face-to-face meeting, and stood out above the other two candidates that were interviewed.

At 70, Nix had been out of football after retiring in 2008 following five-year stint as the San Diego Chargers assistant GM/director of player personnel, where he worked under A.J. Smith.

He came out of retirement to return to Buffalo this past year after serving as the team's area scout from 1993-2000.

Nix has 14 years of NFL experience, mostly in scouting, and previously spent 26 years coaching in the college ranks. That included a nine-year term as head coach at Tennessee-Chattanooga, where he coached Bills receiver Terrell Owens during his freshman year.

"It's not what I had in mind when I came back here in February," Nix said. "The longer I've had time to think about it, the more excited I am about it. ... I believe very strongly that we can get this done. And I'm totally committed to do it."

He takes over what's been a dysfunctional franchise that will miss the playoffs for a 10th straight year, and closes this decade with one winning season -- a 9-7 finish in 2004. Buffalo is also in the midst of its fourth coaching search since 2001 after Dick Jauron was fired in November and replaced by defensive coordinator Perry Fewell, who has a 2-4 record as interim head coach.

Nix acknowledged that he might not have been the most high-profile candidate, something many Bills fans wanted.

"It doesn't matter what kind of splash we make today. What matters is two years and three years down the road, if we have this thing turned around in the right direction and we're winning," Nix said. "I know before I'm asked this, you're going to think I'm crazy, but we're not that far away."

Nix's first task will be hiring a head coach. Without providing a timetable, Nix said the team has a list of candidates.

Though he didn't rule out Fewell, a first-time head coach, Nix noted he's more interested in considering a candidate with previous head-coaching experience.

Two-time Super Bowl winner Mike Shanahan interviewed for the job, but has reportedly turned down the Bills.

With Nix in place, it's uncertain whether the Bills will retain chief scout Tom Modrak, pro personnel director John Guy or Jim Overdorf, the team's senior vice president of football operation.

Nix said he wants to meet with Modrak and Guy following the season.

Bills hall of famers Jim Kelly and Thurman Thomas attended the news conference. Both are familiar with Nix, whose stint in Buffalo overlapped their careers. And both said they are willing to assist Nix in whatever capacity, with Thomas saying he has been asked to serve in some type of scouting role.

ina garten turns down jennifer garner

Hollywood star JENNIFER GARNER was stunned when her request to appear on U.S. TV chef INA GARTEN's cookery programme was snubbed because the actress wasn't a "real friend".
The Elektra star loves whipping up culinary delights for her husband Ben Affleck and their two young daughters and often tries out new recipes from Garten's Barefoot Contessa show on the Food Network.
So Garner decided to reach out to Garten to see if she could help boost the profile of the show, and pick up a few cooking tips along the way, by making an appearance - but her request was rebuffed.
She tells W magazine, "I know somebody who is a friend of hers, and she says she's going to get us together.
"I tried to get on Ina's show... but eventually she just said, 'I'm sorry, I only use my real friends on the show.' I felt like, 'What are you saying? That we're not friends? I know everything about you!'"

Mom and Baby Die, Then Revive

“She had no signs of life. No heartbeat, no blood pressure, she wasn’t breathing,” said Dr. Stephanie Martin, a maternal fetal medicine expert at the hospital. Her baby boy ”was basically limp, with a very slow heart rate.”

“She literally stopped breathing and her heart stopped,” said her husband Mike, 37. Doctors and nurses tried feverishly to revive her, to no avail. “I was holding her hand when we realized she was gone,” Mike said. “My entire life just rolled out.”

The doctors told Mike they would then take his son out, as they could not revive his wife. “They handed him to me, absolutely lifeless,” Mike said.

That’s when the miracles began: the baby suddenly he came to. Soon after, Tracy’s pulse returned, even though she had no heartbeat for about four minutes. She couldn’t remember any of it, feeling as though she had just been asleep.

Dr. Martin says there is no clear medical explanation for Tracy and her son’s recoveries. “We did a thorough evaluation and can’t find anything that explains why this happened,” she said.

What do you think? Do you believe in miracles? Has anything like this ever happened to you?

Dec. 29, 2009 - A nauseating "moldy" odor has made some people sick, who were using Tylenol Arthritis Pain Caplet 100-count bottles with red EZ-Open caps.

The Tylenol maker McNeil PPC Inc. has called back all of this Tylenol product, which is easily recognized by its distinctive red cap(Just in case you bought any). The new recall expands a five-lot recall of the product announced last November.

McNeill says costumers reported the product had "an unusual moldy, musty, or mildew-like odor" linked to symptoms of nausea, stomach pain, vomiting, and diarrhea."

So far, all of these illnesses "were temporary and non-serious," McNeill declares in a news release.

The source of the odor appears to come from the breakdown product of a chemical used to treat the wooden pallets on which the product's packaging materials were transported and stored.

The chemical linked to the odor, 2,4,6-tribromoanisole, is produced when fungi break down a commonly used fungicide called 2,4,6-tribromophenol. The full health effects of 2,4,6-tribromoanisole are not known.

Consumers who purchased the products should immediately stop using them and contact McNeil for a refund or replacement. McNeil can be reached on its web site or by telephone at 888-222-6036 Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Eastern time and from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays.

Any adverse reactions linked to the product should be reported to the FDA MedWatch program at 800-FDA-0178 or online at www.fda.gov/medwatch.

Snooki punched in bar

Snooki, the proud Jersey shore Guido has been making a huge buzz lately after getting punched in the face for no apparent reason in a bar. "I wanna make you an honorary Latina, because you can take a punch, girl!" Says the assailant who was also a gym instructor. Way to pick on someone your own size there you roid raging beast. He can't be held fully responsible for his actions however, for he was fairly flat on his butt drunk at the time. He has not apologized at this point however, and if you were looking for a video of the broad getting socked, here ya go:

Twitter shut down by Iranian Cyber army

Head for the hills, the terrorists are attacking again! Whats their target you ask? Why Twitter of course.

Twitter, the microblogging community was shut down overnight when supposedly a group of Iranian hackers took down their homepage, and replaced it with a picture claiming they had been hacked by the Iranian cyber army.

Twitter acknowledged the hacking in their tweet, stating "As we tweeted a bit ago, Twitter's DNS records were temporarily compromised tonight but have now been fixed, we will update with more information and details once we've investigated more fully the hacking."

Sources from blogs such as techcrunch say Twitter was down for about an hour, with the picture replacing the homepage.

"U.S.A. Think They Controlling And Managing Internet By Their Access, But They Don't, We Control And Manage Internet By Our Power, So Do Not Try To Stimulation Iranian Peoples To," "NOW WHICH COUNTRY IN EMBARGO LIST? IRAN? USA? WE PUSH THEM IN EMBARGO LIST. Take Care," Reads the text at the bottom.

As scary as they might sound with their broken English and threats to PUSH US IN EMBARGO LIST, I'm not shaken. I mean for a terrorist, they really suck at giving people much terror. Just look at the end for crying out loud "take care". But hey as the saying goes, "Jihad with kindness".

Daily celeb dish

Warm and just out of the oven heres your daily celeb dish. It looks like Brad and Angelina might be trying to add another branch to their red wood of a family tree. They were spotted at the UNICEF ball acting fairly playful and flirty with each other, a sign that they might be trying to a 7th addition to the Brangelina family.

It's not like this has been a secret of course, with Angelina saying that she can see "further additions to the family — both adopted and our own." Whatever the case I wish them the best. Maybe those rocky relationship rumors were all just hot air?

As glad as I am for Brangelina relationship, you cant help but feel bad for Bengals star Chris henry and loleini tonga's realationship, which ended with Chris Henry being falling to his death off the back of a pickup truck, being driven by none other than lolei. Play the video to hear the 911 calls.

Hope you enjoyed todays dish, be sure to come back for seconds tomorrow. See ya then ;)

Where is Tiger Woods?

Just where is Tiger Woods? Thats the question tons of the on line community has been asking, as a tidal wave of commotion is created by this multimillionaire golf star. After the leaked information about his secret love life, and the breaking down of most of his public love life, Tiger Woods has probably decided to take it easy for a while. Maybe hes looking for some privacy on his yacht, also named privacy (ironic much?) . With the collapse of his image and his family, hopefully he doesn't pull a Britney. LEAVE TIGER ALONE!

Bruce Allen hired by Redskins

Above photo of Bruce Allen from sptimes.com

The former Tampa Bay Buccaneers GM Bruce Allen is hired to fill Vinny Cerato's spot shortly after he resigned, but not before they complied with the Rooney Rule and interviewed 2 minority candidates.

They are going to hold a news conference Thursday afternoon to address the filling of the spot.
Photo of Vinny Cerrato from washington post.

A statement released by the Redskins Thursday morning states that Cerrato said he has discussed the teams future numerous times with Daniel Snyder.

Cerrato has stated about the situation: "We agreed that the franchise needs someone different in this position, I'm thankful to Dan Snyder and other members of his ownership team for the opportunities I've been given over the years."

ESPN 980 was the first to report the resignation.

The late George Allen, (cerrato's father) coached the Redskins in the 1970s and brought the team to Super Bowl VII.

Even though cerrato has been criticized greatly about his player personnel moves he has been Snyders right-hand man for almost the entire 10 years snyder has owned the Redskins.
